Knowledge Is Power

This is the second post where I will talk about the features which are already on their way to be called completed. This time I'll talk about knowledge.

There is no doubt about the fact that Romans were better developed than for example the Gauls. So when you have a Roman army fighting a Gallic army of equal size, the Roman army should win. Still I want to give the Gallic player in Imperial Domination II the opportunity to defeat the Romans without fielding 10 times the amount of soldiers.

That's why I came up with the system of knowledge. All factions have the ability to build the same buildings and train the units of roughly the same strength. However, they need to research building before they can build them, so that's where the difference appears. Because civilized factions start out with more knowledge they have better buildings/units in the beginning but if the Gauls spend a lot of effort gaining more knowledge they might be able to train better units and thus defeating Romans.

Researches will only add the possibility to upgrade buildings, and upgrading your training facility will unlock better units. Here are two images showing the knowledge screen. One with a few buildings unlocked, and the other with full research:

There are as you can see 9 categories of buildings. In the beginning every category has only one building but when you gain more knowledge you can unlock/research an upgrade. The categories are: Farms, water supply, health, scholar facility, training facility, port, entertainment, walls and roads. You can see the Construction Screen of a province here:

Of course, every building has it's own purpose. Most of them are about the population in your province and some are military. Roads are special because the amount of them depends of the amount of neighboring provinces. I'm not sure how to deal with upgrading roads to provinces which aren't yours.

I hope you liked this update, although I'm not sure if anyone is reading this. It would be nice if you leave any comment! There is one more aspect which is almost finished, the tradesystem. I will explain it in the next update. After that I'm going to keep you all up to date on any new progress I make.

Thanks for your comment! I think you'll have to wait a few months before you can play it though :( It will take a lot of time to create the AI and to polish all features. I hope you can wait that long ;)
